I tried switching my component cables to an HDMI/DVI connection from my Denon DVD-1920 to my Samsung 26" HDTV. The results are a picture which shows horrible posterization. The posterization is very evident when playing "The Lion King" at the very beginning of the movie where the sun comes up. With the HDMI/DVI cable it looks grainy and blotchy while with component cables the transition is smooth and lifelike. Is there something that I am doing wrong? Or is this a natural result of HDMI cables?

Hi thereAre you seeing these artifacts at all resolutions (selected by the "HDMI" button on the Denon front panel)?
yes, I tried all 3 resolutiions. I even tried turning the progressive scan off and RGB as well. No difference whatsoever. :(
