In Reply to: to subwoofer or not to subwoofer that is the question! posted by robfilms on December 16, 2005 at 08:51:17:
Hi: Well given that most Klipsch speakers don't go "deep" (not much under about 35 hz) then a subwoofer is needed if you want the max impact of action movies. Most subs are now powered & Klipsch makes a number of subs, one should fit your needs. I would think smaller (say 10") should work in your room.Speaker placement is often an issue, as is room acoustics. If the room is too live or "dead" there are likely to be problems. But what kind of source are you using? A cheap dvd player will only make things worse.
Follow Ups:
my source would be the toshiba 3950. though cheap in price, i had read only decent reviews for both its audio and video prowess.are there other modestly priced players that u could suggest that might match well w/the pioneer vsx-815k receiver and the klipsch speaker set-up as described up top?
thanks in advance for sharing you thoughts
be well
rob
I think the unit is OK. My personal exprience has been that the better the source the better the end result. For example, the Cambridge DVD player is a nice sounding unit & picture is good as well. It is more money than the Toshiba.BUT, you may be happy with the setup & not wish to spend more. I would say, setup what you have, see how it works & then look for ways to improve you are dissatified.
