I'm new here and would appreciate any advice on this proble including another forum. I recently aquired an Epson 5000 projector (built 1996 or so) and it has a problem. The image has a red fringe around many of the object. A head for instance might have red pixels outlinging the right side. These pictures were enhance and the vertical lines have become pink:

Looks like the panel may have a non-user fixable convergence issue (the red panel is misaligned). You might want to ask Epson about this problem and see if they agree. Some of Sony's WEGA model RP LCD displays had this issue. From what you described and the pictures you posted, I'm guessing it's the same problem that you have.
Can't comment on the $ to fix it, though. Did you "aquire" it for free? If not, were you told about the problem?
Thanks Joe. A freebie. I posted at Epson on Thursday, but have not heard back.
