Toshiba will be introducing SED screens early in 06. SED was developed by Canon. In simplistic terms, its an array of micro CRT-like cells. Supposed to have the PQ of plasma with none of the drawbacks and be much cheaper than plasma once production gets rolling. Reviews I've seen were impressive and have projected that SED will displace plasma.

SED will be released in Japan in '06. By March, Toshiba/Canon expects to have a 55" 1920x1080 model in Japan. SED release in the US may happen in '06, but it probably won't be until late '06.I hope they are successful with SED, but I'm only interested in the picture quality advantages that it may have over plasma. Panasonic will be releasing a 65" 1920x1080 14-bit commercial model capable of accepting a 1080p input via HDMI in Q3/Q4 '06 (maybe sooner). Toshiba/Canon might as well target the top.
