I've received two cracked discs. Needless to say, no machine can play those. (The most annoying part is that by the time I get around to ask for a replacement, they've already got it back, so they won't replace it.)

But, in terms of scratches, I've had 5 which would skip or freeze. And there are definitely some DVD players that are better than others at playing them. Just like CD players.

BTW, did this ever happen with VHS tapes? Er...no.
