Hi thereAs long as you can sit in the sweet spot, then go for it. I run a 4.1 setup.
There may be a small risk of speaker damage to exposing LFE content to the front pair of speakers. I was running my fronts as "large" (full range) speakers untill I heard the right-channel woofers bottom out trying to replicate a sonic boom in the opening of "Tears of the Sun". (The woofers are on open W-style baffles, designed by S. Linkwitz.) For example, the extended battle scenes in Lord of the Rings ROTK could be a hazard for a no-subwoofer setup; that's the only movie that caused items to shake off the top of the sub.
As for the rears I would not spend too much effort or bucks IMHO. It's only the occasional movie that has really good sound effects, assuming that you watch more than just action blockbusters. I think it was "Mission to Mars" that had a visual and audio circular pan that started at RF to RR to LF to LF; few movies are that demanding of the audio system.
