There are several under $100. No DVR, just for playback. Any significant diffences between Soy, Samsung, Toshiba? Am I better off using a cheap DVD player with a VCR?

I have two in the Toshiba SDV 390-393 series, and think they are good units for the $. They (current 393) are $79.97 at hhgregg.com this week with free shipping or at the stores. The VCR part is HiFi, not common on other budget combo DVD/VCR units.
