I recently purchased a Sony AVD-S5000ES DVD/SACD player/receiver combo unit from eBay. I think I am beginning to understand why it was such a "great deal." The seller correctly advertised it as in great condition, and noted the lack of the factory remote. No problem I say, as several online sellers listed the factory remote for $55.95 and up. Well, after 2 months I still do not have a remote control. I first ordered one from www.partscentral.com. It was not in stock, and after two anticipated shipping dates were missed, I called around and found it in stock at 1-800-remotes. I cancelled the first order, and ordered it from them for $75.95, more expensive, but again, they said it was in stock.
Two weeks later they sent an email saying it was on back order. I waited a while longer, and again 2 anticipated shipping dates slipped by. I called and cancelled. If I am going to have it on back order, I might as well order it directly from Sony, as their price is only $55.95.
I have been waiting for two weeks now with it on back order and I have not heard anything from Sony.
In the mean time I thought I would use a universal remote. I bought a Sony RM-VL9000, which generally seems like an above average programable remote. However I have not been able to get any of the codes to work with the unit. I have tried both the Sony DVD and Sony audio receiver remote codes. Is there some trick to set up a universal remote for this type of combination unit?
I usually hang out in the vintage asylum, but my problem has nothing to do with vintage equipment, so I am hoping someone else here has a similar unit and can help me.
