I have no less than 4 DVD players. Two for television and two on computers.

When a disc does not work on one, I often try it on another player to see if the disc is at fault.

Also, I'm a Netflix subscriber. I get discs that can't play probably 5 or 6 times a year. Usually, just soap and water will make them playable. When this doesn't work, there typically is a noticable scratch on the DVD.
