The PS3 ($599 for the HDMI version) will be released in November and around that time a $599 stand-alone Blu-ray player will also be released. Both should have 1080p output capability for Blu-ray discs and should upconvert 480i DVDs up to 1080p as well (lower resolutions for DVD and Blu-ray will also be available should you not be able to take advantage of 1080p).
