Larry,The general danger from etching is if you watch TV where they have permanent logos on screen.
Do you watch such channels?
I went plasma, having borrowed a number of projectors.
I personally thought the DLPs were best - but these can cause issues with some people, due the the way the picture is generated & flickering.
The reason I went plasma is that I do not have a dedicated HT room. Therefore I didn't want to keep my curtains permanently closed.
There was no doubt the the projectors gave a great cinematic feel.

In terms of fine resolution I agree the plasmas are better.I did like the cinematic feel of projectors, but it just wasn't practical for me.
