The 971 uses the Faroujda 23xx series deinterlacer/scaler. These chips don't mix well with several displays -- my Panasonic plasma for one -- due to the macroblocking issues of the chip. If your display plays nicely with that chip, more power to you. If it doesn't, it's a headache you don't need.

Technically it's not macroblocking, but the "bug" has been given this name because it resembles pixelization (in dark scenes). The low IREs (under about 30 IRE) are where this problem occurs and some displays (like the Panasonic plasmas) show it more than others.
