Over the years I have sold and installed 1000's of screens. Make sure your surface is flat and paint should be fine. With the brightness and resolution of today's projectors expensive screen surfaces are not really needed. I am amazed at the emphasis some sales people will place on a specific screen surface. I have seen Screen-Goo and it makes a good projection surface.
