This isn't an issue exclusive to Denon DVD players. The problem stems from the Faroudjda FL23xx series of all-in-one deinterlacing/scaling chips.

Most affected by the bug are plasmas based on Panasonic glass. There are some other display technologies and brands that exhibit the same macroblocking issue, though not as seriously as Panasonic's plasmas.
