I am about to purchase the toshiba progressive scan(480p) 43HX70 HDTV. My question is, do I need a progressive scan DVD to benefit the progressive scan picture?, or will the progressive scan HDTV be sufficient enough? Will it be a waste of money to buy the progressive scan DVD?
Thanks for all help!

Two things. First, the line doubler in your new set will get you a long way there assuming it's a decent line doubler (invest in a good set of component cables if your current player supports it). Second, I wouldn't get a progressive player now until they work out the chroma bug problem. I'm not sure if you've been keeping up on these developments, but Denon was to have a killer player based on the DVDO chip, but they are having problems with it. Save your money on a player for a couple months. Even so, your HDTV will probably provide a satisfying experience and you may find you don't need one. And also, stick to anamorphic discs if possible.Make sure you get a calibration DVD like VE or Avia so you can set it up right.

where the speakers are thin but the music is anything but
The DVDO chipset received a lot of attention with the very well done progressive shoot out over at Secrets.-- Greg
