Anyone familiar with the Pioneer HLD-X9 laserdisc player?

I have come across some rave postings elsewhere on this hand built Japanese player, a few of which apparently made their way into the USA. It is reputed to be better than the Pioneer Elite CLD-97.
I realise that DVD is now the flavour but we have over 600 LDs and I'd be interested to obtain a better picture than the Theta Data III gives if the HLD-X9 is a candidate. Anybody any opinions?
If it is as good as I've read and is confirmed here the problem will then be to find one!!!

  I'm off O/S on Friday, passing through Singapore so will call in to Adelphi House to see if anyone there has or can get one. Unfortunately I'll be gone by the time yours arrives so will not know what you find until I return (mid June).
