My question: using a basic DVD player and TV (32 inch Toshiba), both non-progressive, would I notice a difference in picture quality moving from a good s-video cable (currently using Tributaries DCV-S) to a budget component cable. Have a long run (about 21 ft.) so it'll cost about $100 bucks for a budget component cable. Is it worth spending the money?
Follow Ups:
I would venture to say no, it would not make a $100 difference in picture quality. I base that on both the length of the cable and the screen size of the tv.
I have a 32" Panasonic (nothing fancy, 32AD020) with both S-video and component inputs. I was able to A-B the two against each other and noticed a subtle but significant difference in component over S -- more saturated colors, darker blacks, just a more realistic looking picture overall. But that was with a 2-meter run. Yours is more like 6-1/2 meters. The other factor is that S-video is a smaller wire, unlike component's more snakelike appearance. Hope this helps . . .
