I'm in the market for a new monitor. 27" is all I need, okay its the biggest I am allowed by my SO . I've searched the web and these are the five I've narrowed it down to:
-Toshiba 27AF41
-JVC 27F702
-Panasonic 27SX11
-Phillips 27RF70S
-Sony 27FS13Well, you can gather that my price range tops out at around $600us. Also, I will be using it exclusively with vcr/dvd, since I don't watch regular television(which of course means I don't need features like PIP, etc). Does anyone of these standout above the others? Is there a model I missed that is better than the ones I listed?
Follow Ups:
Go to a store. First grab the remote and play around. see if the 'brightness' control can give you a real 'black' black, or is it just gray? Then look at the colors, ecpecially yellow (bring some DVD movies you like that have things you want to see to check stuff with) Try to see the TV's at a place with subdued lighting, not like Best Buy with way too bright lighting. Watch the edges of stuff at scenes with a huge black white contrast, for 'ringing' of the line where the white stops... Check for settings memory(s) How many inputs and does it have S-vid in? Get at least 4 inputs. How hard is it to navigate the menus? and do any have reviews? check at your local library for magazine tests. Good luck. (I love my XBR but the stupid remote has poor placement for a lot of the buttons, and it is not a 'learning' remote, it only can get other codes for a bunch of preset stuff, of course I don't OWN any of that crap...) So check 'em out and SEE which one turns YOU on!
Have you taken a look at the Samsung TSK2792F? It was recently on sale at HiFi Buys (Tweeters) for around $800. It is progressive scan (480P)and accepts 1080i. Paired with the Samsung DVD-P401 progressive scan DVD player ($200) you have a very nice setup for $1000.
