I have not really used the volume control inside the "menu" setings... it is on the end of a series of settings for various things. Playing with the 'volume' to -60db... with it, it works, but how the various parts of a surround sound interact with the settings?? (the parts of the 'room/speaker' settings have a separate set of volume controls for the center and rear speakers i think???) I have NO surround or center so I really just set my player to two big fronts and that's all. The manuals should indicate if this sort of menu item is in a player you are interested in... the problem is getting the salesman to let you read it!

Elizabeth,I have a DVD-a10 (which I like very much) but I have not been able to find the master volume setting in the menu that you mentioned in this post. Can you tell me exactly how to find it?
Thanks
Elizabeth kindly pointed out the DVD-A10 setting for master volume control by email. It's documented in the manual and works well in 5.1 surround mode.
