to allow recording two channels at the same time. This was done via a software upgrade this week. Will require hooking up two cables to the Satellite dish, one for each "channel". This has to be in response to the Ultimate TV's same capability.Has anyone tried this out yet?
I still think that TiVO should allow / provide for upgrades to the hard drive capacity of their units. There are sites on the Web which contain instructions for installing a second hard drive. Again, it's another capability that the TiVO units have designed in. Maybe when Ultimate TV, or even Replay comes out with the capability for users to add additional hard drives, TiVO will follow suit.
Follow Ups:
You were just upgraded to version 2.5 of the software. And to be clear, this applies only to DirecTivo combo unit, not to the stand alone units. This has been in the works for a long time (all DirecTivos have had the hardware built in). I don't know whether or not it is in response to UltimateTV.You do need to run a second cable from the dish to your DirecTivo to have the second tuner operate, and I have tried it out. It's fantastic. The ability to record 2 shows, or record one while watching another is fantastic. No more conflicts.
As for adding an additional hard drive, yes I've done that as well and it's extremely easy if you're comfortable doing very simple things to any computer, specifically plugging in a hard drive. There are amazing people out there on the web that have created fantastic web pages and programs to allow this. For more information check out:
