Powering Sub for Home Theater

I was wondering if I don't have a sperate amp for my Sub-woofer, can I just use my home stereo system just to power the amp , it's not being use.

Possibly, it really depends on your stereo.
Are you talking about a power amplifier or a receiver? Most subs have a characteristic impedance of 4 ohms, and many receivers don't do well driving 4 ohm loads.
So the answer is a definitive maybe.
