Wow, this sounds like something out of the 70's. I have an old issue of The Absolute Sound where they talk about this happening to some kind of amp. I think it was a Marantz, but I could be wrong. Cause was a bad batch of capacitors. My Marantz AV-9000 (2nd sample) makes occasional clicking noises and has shut itself once but has not blown up yet. Don't get too pissed at Marantz, though; even the best brands are not perfect. There are an awful lot of components inside these things.

Wow. I owned the Marantz SR-8000 for about 8 months and the Marantz AV-9000 for about 9 months and I had no problems with either of them. I guess the more you sell, the more likely you run into problems.
