The Proceed is a very good piece but will still pale in comparison to a dedicated 2 channel preamp. I use a Proceed AVP and I think it is great for HT. In my experience, HT preamp/processors could never do as good a job for music as a dedicated 2 channel preamp. This includes the highly praised Meridian 861.

It seems I need a processor loop on my future preamp...This in not a very common feature, correct??Thanks, jb
There is no reason you need a processor loop.
Any stand alone 2 channel audio pre can be used.
In my set-up (with similar goals & priorities to yours) I use an Outlaw 1050 for HT, which sends the pre amp output to a Foreplay.
I also run a CDP direct to the Foreplay. Not having a processor loop makes channel balancing a little more difficult, but not impossible.
I use 2 channel for HT mostly so it becomes irrelevant for me.
