The video is excellent. The sound is excellent. The 9000ES is really great. I guess you need to ask yourself if you really want multi-channle SACD or not, because that will obviously be the difference. The DV09 is a great player, but I bet you'd like the sony video maybe just a tiny bit more.
Line conditioners: yes, clean power is essential. Take a look at www.audioadvisor.com to see what is out there. I have seen ( and yes, heard a difference with) the Audio Prism unit. Very good!
As for upgrading the 9000ES, take a look at one of the other forums, the Digital - SACD/DVD-A forum, then search for 9000ES. You'll find that there recently was a demo at the Pacific Northwest Audio Society between a modified 9000ES and a stock unit. I hear the modded unit kicked butt! The company that did this is www.midwright.com, in Portland Or. I will probably be sending my unit there as soon as it is broken in.
Enjoy!
