Your DVD player will output DD via its digital interface (coax/optical). The same is true for DTS provided that your DVD player supports DTS. On board DTS decoding is not necessary if you use the digital interface. Although, it has no effect on the digital output if the unit does have it.Of course, using the digital interface requires that your external DAC or AV receiver supports DD/DTS decoding. Otherwise the 6 analog outputs must be used.
Personally, I use my AV receiver for DD/DTS decoding.
