There are a couple of things that can cause this.

Edge enhancement on the DVDs you're watching.....

Sharpness on the TV is tuned too high.

DVD player has sharpness set too high.

So, it might be the player, it might be the display and it might be the disc. If it's every disc, it probably isn't the disc though :-)
