Hello all,
Im wondering what brands/models of stand-alone surround sound processors there are. Im looking for upper-mid end to higher-end units which perform dolby, thx, and/or ambience for music listening as well. (I already have all the amplifiers I will ever need, for up to 11-channels).I am open to new or used products, with good sound, and would like to hear of some suggestions/recommendations on units to investigate. Im into value and quality.
Brands that come to mind are Yamaha and Lexicon. However, its been a quite a while since Ive been involved in home theatre, versus standard 2-channel audio, to I could use some updating on what the good units to look for are.
Follow Ups:
I have an old Denon Dolby Pro Logic unit, and I love it. Their new boxes are fairly well-thought of, and would likely excell in a HT application. You might also want to check out Outlaw. They sell only on the web, but as a result you get a lot more box for the buck. I think they're at outlaw.com? Also very well thought of.
Let us know what you get!
If you are into high quality audio (as we are here) avoid those two brands. I have not auditioned many but are highly impressed with Meridian. Do a net search with Google for Meridian processors and you will soon find which model; suits you best.An excellent source of owner views on Meridian products is at

BTW I'm not completely sold on all Meridian products - dislike what I heard re their digital speakers but the processors and players are generally held in high repute. Quite a few come on the used market as owners upgrade.
