The good news is, performance is getting better and better for less money.

A few to think about to look at / listen to when you can:
Philips Q50
Panasonic RP-91
Panasonic RP-56
Denon 2800 (Might get it on clearance at this price)
Sony DVP-NS700P
Toshiba SD-4700 and SD-5700
JVX XV- *75* in the last part of the model #.

These are some of your choices, but certainly not all of them :-)
