Hi, I'm looking to buy a used Marantz cd-63 or 67 to replace my Marantz cd-48. I'm hoping for a bit better sound (not that I'm unhappy with the 48). My problem is that the features on the 48 are PERFECT for my usage. I don't want to sacrifice convenience for a slight improvement in sound quality (I do a lot of recording). Does anyone have one of these players, and if so, can anyone give me the rundown of the buttons on the front panel? Does anyone recommend one of these players? Is the 63 or 67 noticably better than the 48? My choices are 63-se, 63 mk II, 67-se. Thanks in advance for your help!!

I auditioned both the cd 48 and the cd67se and the 67 was better. However, it was not a night and day better thing. The 67 is more transparent and presents a better sound stage. However, the 67 costs 250 to 300 bucks more. In that light, you've really gotta' care about subtle differences in sound. I think that the cd48 has a front pannel volume control for headphones and the cd 67 does not. However, you can adjust the volume of the headphones with the remote on the 67. The front pannels are very much the same otherwise but the guts of the two are quite different. open up the 67 and the inside is a beautiful thing to behold. Everything is gold and solid. Very nice workmanship.
