You may be experiencing banding which occurs on some Sony HDTV sets - but since your description of bars/lines is not too specific, I'm not sure. There is a service menu item in the set you can change to minimize it, if you know how to get into it. There is much information about this subject at the Yahoo Groups Sony HDTV forums. You should do a search on banding and get many results.
