I'm using an SVGA cable to connect the HDTV satellite receiver (sony HD100) to a Panasonic plasma. the signal quality seems to be as good, possibly better than the component inputs, (but the scaler on the panasonic has trouble with a true 1080i signal--it won't display a full screen picture--a problem known to panasonic ).try it with a regular VGA/SVGA monitor cable from your computer store. if it works for your set-up then I recommend you get a good cable from Straightwire. They make all versions and variations of terminations for video, including mix'n-match (RCA/BNC on one end, 15 pin Dsub on the other).
For HD video, get the very best cables--you will see the difference.
