If Totem's Vince Bruzzese attended that 1993 Stereophile Show, I missed him. The May Audio staff was scrambling, trying to find some prop, which, when placed on top of a Target speaker stand, made it look like a Greco-Roman column.
When possible, we liked to visit the Santa Cruz beaches, not right in front of the Boardwalk. That way, you'd avoid crowds. Above, we gathered various bits of seaweed, buried our friend in the sand, and turned her into a mermaid. That's about as close to Mr. Bruzzese's hair, as I can think of :-)
Not that the water was warm enough, but we always had at least one person stay on the beach, to safeguard our possessions. If everyone simultaneously went into the water, that would leave our possessions on the beach vulnerable to theft.
Pictures don't really capture the mood, the air, the breath, the spirit, the inspiration. Regardless of weather, if I were outdoors on campus, while the sun was going down, I could only think about audio. I mentally tried to project, what it'd be like, to possess various high-end audio products. How would the product react with what you already had? Was it easy to use? Did it make noise, or run hot? Did it look pretty? We were already deeply into our music. Would better audio make us go deeper into the escapism? Would we be even more in tune with, and a part of, our enviroment?
