Found it.
Le Trou is more suspenseful (love the ending), but overall I think A Man Escaped is slightly better...Doug
Do you mean the J. Becker´s film?
Well that is too long ago for comparing I would have to see it again, even if in my memory it remain at the top.
From my instinct I would not compare them, now I could not underline why.
But I would agree with Tin....
The Pickpocket, there is far more below the surface. To even contemplate comparing it to a usual escape film is to have missed the essence of it. Look again.
Wow! One more reason to go blu!
I know there is a lot of crap on Blu-Ray (how many Adam Sandler movies do we really need in hi-def?), but so many good titles are coming out on a regular basis. So go Blu now!
Cheers. Doug
Even worse - I don't even have plans.
How's THAT for defiance?
No HDMI either.

I notice image quality when it gets in the way. As soon as it reaches acceptable level, it matters no mo. I am a movie lover, not a videophile.

...I am not a dude, I am famously...a dudette. ;-)
Ever since Criterion jumped on board and the catalogue has gotten deeper (silents, classics, foreign etc) I've just been waiting for the right machine, which is probably going to be the Oppo BDP since it can be made region free and thus provide a 1 box solution.
I don't even have a "big" screen, although I do have a widescreen HDTV. That big screen will be coming in the next few months.
I don't buy DVD now if it's coming on BD.
that's the kiss of death for any consumer product. If it ain't workin,' who cares how great it is?
...where they're as anal and obsessed with HT as we inmates are with audio. Haven't seen chatter that the Oppos BDP has serious problems, just the usual, handled by firmware upgrades. It's still their fair-haired child at AVS.
Were you basing this on the beta testers? I haven't seen anything at AVSforum that leads me to think the BDP83 is less reliable than average the average BDP. Care to point to a specific thread somewhere? You'll be doing firmware upgrades and possibly encountering "handshake" issues with almost any BDP, it's inherent in the changing nature of the BD format. Oppos are generally held to be more reliable than most.
Yes, their catalogue is wonderful. Mostly it's region A, and as I'm stuck here in region B, I am also looking at a multi-region player. I've got my eye on the Oppo BDP-83. Not sure if it's a major step up from a cheap Momitsu multi-region BD player. Have to do more research...
The older we get the un-sharp we see.
BD compensate it.
So it is always more than only one +.
