Being interested in Civil War history, I was kind of eager when the DVD of G&G came out. Now, I wasn't expecting a cinematic masterpiece, but ugh, what a stinkeroo! My thumb was blistered from use of fast forward. Not even close to the corny but historically accurate and nicely edited "Gettysburg". And unlike Gettysburg, even the battle scenes (between long stretches of tedium) were badly staged and poorly filmed. Its hard believe a movie about such a rich subject (the book was quite good) can be made soooo boring. And of all the available Civil War personalities to make the protagonist...Stonewall Jackson; the war-loving prototype for Dr. Strangelove. To quote Old Stonewall, "Bayonet the stragglers".
