Home Films/DVD Asylum

Movies from comedy to drama to your favorite Hollyweird Star.

First, I completely disagree with you...

...I think his greatness is magnificently cinematic. I also suspect that you post this largely to be provocative, because you know so many people will disagree with you. It's not your opinion that's a problem for me; of course you don't have to like Bergman.

In other words, in my opinion what you're saying is a little silly in the context of the general regard for Bergman's work around the world. If he's really that un-filmic how could he be even a good filmmaker? Your assertion requires that countless others who hold his work in such high regard would be somehow *wrong*. It just doesn't get you or the discussion anywhere interesting.

If you are really just interested in a lively discussion of the topic you brought up, why not just say: "let's discuss the relation between Bergman the theater director and Bergman the filmmaker. I find his films to be rather theatrical in a way that bothers me. I don't think he's cinematic enough. What do you guys think?"

I submit that this would get you more substantive replies to the question you raise than your short, rather glib introductory post. As you can see most of the posts have been brief rebuttals without specifics. Wouldn't you prefer a more exploratory and wide-ranging discussion of the topic?
