Bridge to Terabithia; good for kids to watch?

Finally got round to watching this movie and it was a delight, but not sure if younger children would be ready for the ending.

I believe it got a PG rating (parental guidance) when released in the UK which would be about right.

However, it wouldn't surprise me if some parent bought the DVD for the kids and left them alone to watch it in the bedroom, only to find them running into the living room an hour later bawling their eyes out.
