Yes the mire of controversy will always cloud the genius as a filmmaker that Ms Riefensthal was.Maybe she grabbed the "moment' and ran with it- was she to be interned if she did not "cooperate"with the Reich?
Her talent if misguided by political forces was undeniably a masterwork as her legacy shows.
I worked a Dive boat out of Papua New Guinea in the late 90's she was a passenger on
one of our trips-- still Scuba Diving at 92!!
Incidentally if her "boss" had been accepted into the Austrian Fine Art Academy-- we might not have seen the world in turmoil over those years.
