1. it could be that your 'old' system was a high-current amp and therefore even though the wattage rating is lower, it actually was able to produce more volume.2. the new speakers are not as efficient as your old ones... if you got a package deal on the 5.1 speakers... they sometimes come with speakers with sensitivity of 85-87db.
3. What does it sound like in Stereo mode, instead of surround? i know the Sony receiver i have has less output in multi-channel mode than in stereo mode.... Multi is 100W/channel and stereo is 120W/channel.
4. cables? if you are not using a large enough gauge of cable, you may be loosing some bottom-end and therefore would seem not to be as loud..
