Is the Sub active or passive? (i.e. self-powered or powered via the receiver)... if it is active then you are using the internal amp via a line level feed? Ohm rating wont matter. As far as your surrounds, not sure if a higher Ohm rating would be a bad thing... i think that as your runs of speaker cable get longer and longer (like to the surrounds) the impedance goes way up.... did you make sure that the amps Ohm setting was 8 instead of 4? (typically a switch behind the Sony units...at least the ones i have had).Sorry i cannot be of more help... you might post the impedance question on the speaker forum.
