My opinion is you can get great 2 channel music out of older equipment, but to get the best multichannel Home Theater playback, you need the newer digital surround formats, Dolby Digital at least. Not sure what the Yamaha has, can say from my experience that all the other DSP modes that are offered in these older units will get tiring very quickly, and become unused features.A lot of guys here will get a decent home theater receiver, feed it's L/R signal into an auxiliary input (or home theater bypass, if available) of a high quality preamp, for the best of both worlds.
