I still own a REL Storm III which I believe is very similar to the Strata III but a bit larger. I'm not presently using it so it's stored in my basement covered up with a blanket.I used my Storm III in an audio-only setup using the speaker level outputs from my tube amp (CJ Premier 11a at the time). I have also used the Storm III with the LFE output from my Denon 3803 A/V processor/receiver. They both work.
I can tell you that the Storm III integrates nicely in the audio-only setup and it fills in the low bass notes but it's down firing design doesn't offer a lot of snap and impact.
For home theater use, I actually preferred laying the Storm III on it's side with the speaker firing right at me vs down onto the floor.
I find the Storm III to work very nicely in the audio-only setup but it's over kill for home theater. You can get by with a lesser sub for HT use IMHO. If you do use the Strata III for HT, try laying it on it's side with the speaker firing at you. You might prefer it that way as I did.
