I've had it happen right out of the box with Assault on Precinct 13, and after 4 plays of Phantom of the Opera. Both instances were fixed by the use of a digital media spray cleaner. The "forever to boot up" statement I disagree with. So it ain't quick, but it's far from forever. I've gotten used to the function timing of this player, and am now very comfortable with it. In all, I'd give it a thumbs up for a first generation effort. And I'll be most interested to see the first firmware update, which Toshiba sends out on disc to owners who register the product.
In my opinion, the negative hype on this product is way over blown. YMMV of course ")
