It depends on where you place the equipment. If the sofa is against the back wall, then the rear speakers will have to be "dipoles" since you will be sitting beside them.I would get a good display as Late suggested, then a good DVD player & a good HT receiver, such as an Arcam or similar. That will leave money for the speakers. That choice is up to you.
Do some more reading about HT setups. Your room is workable, but as I said, setup is all important just like in two channel, but you now have twice as many speakers!
