Most television sets in the US are NTSC-only, and will not display PAL-source pictures.

In order to play PAL discs you must have one of the following:

1. A DVD player that outputs PAL, _and_ a television that supports PAL.

OR, if your TV is NTSC-only,

2. A DVD player that converts PAL source to NTSC output.
