films.
Amazing, but Mean Streets still is his best.
Sure, Taxi Driver is entertaining as hell (like his fellow Italian-American Coppola's Godfather epics), but the over-Hollywood-ization of Keitel and Jodie's characters detracted in a pivotal relationship. Still, it's such entertaining crap that's its hard not to watch. DeNiro elevates it from standard B-movie status.
Alice Doesn't Live Here Anymore: boring, as is Kundun.
King of Comedy, Last Temptation, Gangs of NY, Bring out the Dead, Raging Bull, Goodfellas, Casino: all portray such ugliness, w/out any redeeming ballast, that they fail in the most important category: humanity.
After Hours, however, and Age of Innocence are excellent films which stand the test of time.
