Them's fightin' words. Horsepucky sez I.Wish I didn;t have to go to bed to get up early to go to work, but I don't agree with your assessment of either Scorsese or his films and I have lots to say on the subject. If you fail to find humanity in Scorsese's films, you're not paying attention. Scorsese's films are, if nothing else *passionate*, and very "human". They are also tough, demanding, and generally unsentimental. Amusing you use the word redeem, as redemption often plays a significant subtext in the films of this most Catholic of directors.
I'm OK if Marty ain't your cuppa, no big deal. Different strokes and all that. But to dismiss the man's body of work and artistic passion so cavalierly you just ain't payin' attention to what's on the screen.
The best:
Raging Bull
Taxi Driver
GoodfellasClose to the Best:
Mean Streets
Pretty damn good:
Age Of Innocence
New York New York
After Hours
The Aviator
Last Temptation of ChristFlawed but worthy of viewing:
Bringing Out the Dead
Casino
King Of ComedyKundun I'd like to see again, but I never found it boring.
The most flawed film in Marty's oevre is Gangs, but I was never bored for a second watching it, which is more than I can say about Spielberg's The Terminal.
