I've been a stereo hobbyist and music lover for the past 40 years but I am a neophyte to the world of HT. Only recently have I decided to put together a HT system. I'm still feeling my way around with this new technology but I have spent some time shopping for receivers. I've heard both of these units but not in a side by side comparison. The Yamaha certainly has lots of bells and whistles and I'm sure is a very good HT receiver. However, I found the Rotel to be a little more refined sounding (not necessarily a good thing with HT). If you plan to use the receiver for music only listening in addition to HT then I would get the Rotel. If you will use it exclusively for HT and like your music with sound effects then you might like the Yamaha better. If power is a consideration; despite the published specs, the Rotel might again be the best choice. It's conservatively rated 75wpc is probably more powerful than the 110wpc rating of the Yamaha. I'm buying the Rotel.Randy
