Thanks. I don't have the ability to read DVDs on my computer, or analyze them, but you are probably right. After Christmas, I noticed that the left RCA cable going to the TV was pulled out. I am just trying to eliminate the possibility of a problem with the DVD player itself (bad op amp on the analog audio) as the cause. The distortion shows up more in the left channel. Listening with headphones the other night, I noticed that it is also more pronounced when I have the player set for its surround mode, rather than normal, with alot of what I would call "digital artifacts"... weird pops and other noises other than the primary distortion itselfAs far as the player goes, I see from looking inside that it uses the Analog Devices AD1833 DAC, which from the data sheet, is programmable for volume on all 6 channels. I know that alot of DVD players have an "Attenuate" control in the audio menu. Will this "Attenuate" help matters? My Toshiba does not allow this, but judging from the empty chip slots, etc. on the board, I wonder if the more expensive players have this.
I may just go ahead and replace the op amp and see what happens. I also will take this DVD as a test disc and see if I can run it in some other players. Thanks for the advice.
Chris
