Stand-alone DVD recorders don't have this option, but many computer DVD writers can change the book-type/bit-setting (only available for the +R format) so that the +R burned disc is recorded as a -ROM disc (which all stand-alone DVD players "see" as a regular movie DVD).Because of this option (the DVD-ROM feature of +R), the compatibility issue actually favors the +R format due to the fact that the majority of +R stand-alone players won't play -R at all.
