RE: Austin TX or Nashville TN for businesses & work-life balance ?

Nashville hands down. Last time I was in Austin they were under a boil water warning due to a bacterial infected water supply caused indirectly by flooding. I was there for a wedding and they had to import all fresh vegetables from FAR away. I don't think Texas' independent spirit works well with booming urban/suburban growth and the necessary infrastructure.

I've never been to Nashville, but I lived a bit in Knoxville while attending the University of Tennessee. It's a beautiful state. My experience was that the people can be a bit judgmental unless you are one of them, of which I wasn't. My dorm mates broke every commandment there was during the week, but I was the one going to hell because I didn't go to church on Sunday (I didn't break any of the big ones during the week!)

And think about location, Austin is in Texas, far away from anything else but Texas. New Orleans is not too far away, but what else is there? From Nashville you're an 8 or 9 hour drive from the beaches of North or South Carolina (I know, Texas has beaches, but how many times can you go to South Padre?). DC is not that much farther. A 3 hour drive gets you to Great Smokey Mountains National Park and Gatlinburg where you could get on the Appalachian Trail and hike to your hearts content. Going the other way, you're 7 hours from Chicago.

Man, I think I've convinced myself. If it wasn't for the (REDACTED) and the humidity I think I'd move there too!
